Open mic all night!

Due to some unforeseen circumstances we’ve lost our headline act this month, however that means we’ll be having an even longer open mic than usual. Depending on numbers we should have some extended slots but at the very least can guarantee places for all. Remember anything goes, short stories, musicians or anything else that involves at least a few words.

P.S. Don't forget to go and see John Cooper Clarke at the City Varieties on 17th September

Rising poetry superstars Aisle16 stop off in Leeds on their way back from the Edinburgh Festival with a white-knuckle micro-lecture on the achingly hip subject of contemporary poetics. The boys will attempt to get to the bottom of what poetry really actually is, and whether it is actually really any good for anything at all. It's Edutainment, innit.

Luke Wright, Ross Sutherland, Joel Stickley, and Chris Hicks take their ambulance-chasing poetics to new levels of choreography, notching up the cultural road kill as they go. And what’s more they’ll turn you into a key stage three approved poet!!

A full on multimedia, poetry extravaganza not for the faint hearted.

Wicked words is pleased to have the 6 finalists from this years Poetry Idol competition held in Bradford. A fantastic and eclectic line of some the rising stars in performance poetry in our region.

Kevin Flaherty
One of the oldest (but perhaps not the wisest) of the Interchange poets. A complicated man writing poetry for a discerning audience.

Tina Watkin
Mainly rhymes poems but also writes for the Bradford Telegraph and Argus (unrhymed). Published in anthologies and winner of a number of awards, she thinks she's hiding from fame.

Andy Craven Griffiths
You all know him by now. All the ladies seem to love him, particularly those who help out at wicked words. "A wordsmith supreme" Brian Patten

Jeremy Young

Originally from Bradford, now living in Keighley. Trish was one of the two poets representing Bradford competing against other ciies as part of the Capital of Culture bid.

Since leaving Chapel Allerton 3 years ago to seek his literary fortune in amongst the illiterati of Oxford, Steve Larkin has become one of the strongest emerging voices in the ever expanding international slam scene. He is the current Canadian Spoken Word Olympic International Champion, has previously won awards from Farrago and the USSU Literary Society.
He has been performing for ten years, sharing stages with the likes of Linton Kwesi Johnson, John Hegley and John Cooper Clarke in nightclubs, pubs, festival, schools, prisons etc throughout the UK from Edinburgh to Glastonbury.

Brendan McLeod: Brendan was the 2004 winner of the National Individual Final at the Canadian Spoken Wordlympics, awarded to the top slam poet in Canada.

Barbara Adler: She has performed all over North America, including regular stops at the US Nationals and as a notable feature performer at NYC's Bowery Poetry Club.

C. R. Avery: C.R. can, among other things, play harmonica while beat-boxing and rapping at the same time. The author of three hip hop operas, he has toured all across Europe and North America as a musician and spoken word artist

Mark Berube: Mark is one of Canada’s foremost singer-songwriters, a multi-instrumentalist.
